Personally I think they need to stop making end of series episodes where they need to hit the big red reset Earth button. Unless from now on every one on Earth is going to know about aliens but that wouldn't be Doctor Who it would be something else.

Anyway they can make a more expensive one by adding all the Doctors played by currently living actors, the Doctor's daughter, K9, Professor River Song, Ace and every other companion played by an actor who is still living, CGI versions of all the dead Doctors and companions, every former member of UNIT played by a still living actor... I'm sure there are lots more.

The only problem is would there be a good story in there trying to escape?

I presume you're saying that 'cos of the number of characters/spin-offs involved.

Yes, I know, but didn't you think it was a good episode? (okay, Sarah Jane didn't add much - this week - but there's time yet).

And besides, it gives me at least six days during which to expect a phone call from the Beeb asking me to be the eleventh Doctor. It's obvious when you think about it. They've never had an overweight boozy Geordie before*... "Haway man, Davros, just leave it like, now do you want another bottle of Broon or what?"

*for that matter, they've never had someone who isn't a professional actor before. But if they want to give me a ring...

I am not going to do this on my own blog 'cos I'm sure I've done something along these lines before, but just so I don't get books thrown at me, I'd like to confirm that I've read 2,4, most of 6, 8, 16, 23 (don't bother), 25, 28, 29, 33, 36, 40, 41, 42, 44 (would recommend it), 49, 52, 59, 61, 63, 64,70, 71, 72, 74, 77, 81, 87, 88 (a bit sentimental, but still worth a look), 89, 90, 97, 98 and 99.

The complete works of Shakespeare? Well since a certain amount has been lost, that'd be difficult... and why should you have to read all of Shakespeare to score 1, but each Dickens is listed separately? And why do play scripts count as literature anyway? Surely they are meant to be performed...

I was disappointed to see RTD go, as the work he's done on Dr. Who cannot and should not be underestimated. It has been transformed into the family saturday night staple. Even the weak episodes are generally way better than anything post-83 Dr. Who.

But in the first 3 'new' series, SM has written my favourite episode in each case (Empty Child, Girl in the Fireplace, Blink). Plus I was one of those people who loved Coupling... so if we are to lose RTD, I'm pleased SM's the man who has been asked to step up into the breach.

Great list and really useful. I came to it via the Cavewars group which I have just joined. The only omission I think I can see on a first quick look is that you have not included the Aurochs from Excalibur in Germany. You have to ditch the rider but the beast itself is impressive. I look forward to using your list in the very near future.

Regards, Andrew
