Chalicotherium from Mega MiniaturesMega Miniatures have enhanced their extensive range of animal miniatures with some prehistoric mammals – a Doedicurus, a Diprotodon and best of all a Chalicotherium.

I’ve been fascinated by Chalicotheres ever since I saw them on Walking with Beasts but up to now the only miniature representation has been the 1/72 scale David Krentz version, which whilst a better sculpt is small and pricey. So big kudos to Mega for bringing one of my favourite animals to life.

Ragnarok 55The latest issue of Ragnarok, the journal of fantasy and science fiction wargaming, was published this week and contains the usual mix of useful and off-the-wall articles. I liked the Daleks, the moon landings and the discussion on alternative history.

The SFSFW have been busy and can now be found on Twitter and Facebook. They also have their own blog (which I’m syndicating on LiveJournal, if that’s your preferred platform).

Today, I’ve been updating the society’s web site:

  • Combined two stylesheets into one (originally the second stylesheet had been @imported in order to hide it from Netscape 4, those were not the good old days)
  • Converted the site to HTML 5, just because I can, and added some ARIA role attributes for accessibility
  • Pulled in the latest blog posts onto the homepage (using Magpie RSS to do so)
  • Added all the new sites to the navigation
  • Added social bookmarking links to most pages so visitors can send the page straight to Google, Facebook, LiveJournal, Delicious, Stumbleupon or Twitter

Total domination of the interwebs, here we come!

  • Got very wet on the way home. But at least I'm not at the open air theatre like the wife… #
  • Went Walking with Dinosaurs last night. Brilliant. #fb #

  • I wonder why Twitter Tools for WordPress posts two weekly summaries to my blog. I've noticed it happening to one other person as well. #

Last night I had a dream in which someone had hacked our servers and replaced all the images with, correct pixel sizes and file names, “glamour” photos. Which was a rather odd thing for a hacker to do. We were debating whether to shut the site down whilst we fixed it, or leave it up and try to repair things on the fly. Could we restore the images directories from a backup or could we make the CMS republish everything?

Rather relieved to get into work to find everything working as normal; on the servers. All the desktops had been upgraded to MS Office 2007…
