The Beeb have released details of Doctor Who 2010 – Karen Gillan’s character is called Amy Pond and we have a first look at Matt Smith’s costume.
The Time Lord’s new look consists of tweed jacket, bow tie, rolled up trousers and black boots.
Maybe it’s just the picture but that doesn’t look very good to me. 
I think the problem is that the sort of look that would suit Smith best is … the sort of look that Tennant has been doing for the last four years.
I think the key thing is we can’t tell how well the outfit will suit the doctor until we see the doctor’s new personality. The look is a bit more teacher/professor, so if the personality is a little like that, it might well work. Otherwise, like you, I’m not so sure…
The professor thing is very true. Matt Smith looks like he could be the younger brother of a certain academic I know, and the clothes could have come from the wardrobes of a few other academics I can think of.
The basic idea isn’t too bad. Having seen some more photos it’s growing on me slightly. Maybe if they played with the texture and colours of the suit/shirt/tie a little it would click into place.
Oh well, only nine months or so to wait.
