Maybe my head is still fuzzy from plague and lack of sleep but I just did something rather unusual for me. I went out and bought a CD in a shop (not online, a real shop with idiot staff and all) without dithering about it for ages. Must be entering my second (third? fourth?) childhood.

So currently I’m listening to We Are Scientists – With Love and Squalor and loveing it.

And no, I didn’t buy it just because it has kittens on the cover. Well, not only.

Very True Music: We Are Scientists - Worth The Wait

Oddly enough, the top to items in my newsreader this morning were about celebrity physicists and the media whoredom of a scientist. Not that this has any relevance to any close personal friends…

Very True Mood: still icky, it's so not fair!

There are two sorts of sick days. The first sort is where you feel “a bit under the weather” in the morning, phone in sick, have a lie in and then potter around at home. The second is the sort I had today.

I’m supposed to be going to a presentation on web accessibility in local government tomorrow. In Hounslow. I’ll see what I feel like tomorrow morning but right now the idea of rush hour train across London doesn’t appeal (does it ever?) so maybe I shouldn’t go. After all I could infect an awful lot of people…

Hey, this looks like a quiz for [info]pink-weasel

You are Mohair

You are a warm and fuzzy type who works well with others, doing your share without being too weighty. You can be stubborn and absolutely refuse to change your position once it is set, but that’s okay since you are good at covering up your mistakes.

What kind of yarn are you? brought to you by Quizilla

That’s actually rather accurate. Spooky.

Pub Quiz last night. We won. Again. Only three of us this time so less of a walkover then last time, and the questions were a little bit trickier, but still a respectable 64/80. The prize has grown and is now three bottles of cava.

Jolyon and I drank the bar dry of two bitters. We started in IPA, a good session beer, but that ran out. So we switch to Spanker, an interesting beer that grows on you after the first pint, but that ran out. So we finished the night with Hobgoblin, a serious beer. Ouch.

The last round was interesting, ten winners of the Oscar for Best Song. Given the year, song and artist, can you name the film? We only got five right. How well can you (and that means you, not Google, Wikipedia, etc.) do?

  1. 1982, “Up Where We Belong”, Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes
  2. 1939, “Over the Rainbow”, Judy Garland
  3. 1953, “Secret Love”, Doris Day
  4. 1985, “Say You, Say Me”, Lionel Richie
  5. 1996, “You Must Love Me”, Madonna
  6. 1976, “Evergreen”, Barbra Streisand
  7. 1964, “Chim Chim Cher-ee”, Dick Van Dyke
  8. 1990, “Sooner or Later”, Madonna
  9. 1947, “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah”, James Baskett
  10. 1995, “Colors of the Wind”, Vanessa Williams

So, Happy St David’s Day. Have a drink of, um, er, oh, I drank a Welsh beer once and it was dreadful, so other than Leek Soup what else can one toast today with? Oh well.

That’s what’s written on the side of the bottles for the water cooler in the office. “Water must not be stored in direct sunlight.” Okay, has everyone got that?
